My Last Match: Where We Are and What’s Next

It’s been exciting to watch My Last Match (MLM) take shape over the past few months. This Qubic blockchain-powered massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) is clearly pushing boundaries, but the team isn’t rushing anything. Instead, they’re working through development step- by- step, involving the community wherever possible. Here’s where things stand today and what to expect in the near future.

Developer Background: From The Wicked Days and Post Scriptum CTG to My Last Match

The team behind MLM has prior experience in game development, having worked on The Wicked Days, a survival game released in 2021 by Alien Tech Limited, and Post Scriptum CTG, a tactical command game also developed by Alien Tech Limited. These prior projects demonstrate their ability to deliver completed games and have laid the groundwork for their vision with MLM.

What the Finished Game Will Look Like: A Unified, Real-Time World

One thing that really stands out about MLM will be the scope. Instead of splitting players into separate groups or servers, the goal is to create one big, interconnected world where up to 50,000 people can interact at once. The technology behind this is expected to be impressive - 50ms latency will ensure actions happen almost instantly, and every decision will affect everyone else.

But MLM won’t be just another post-apocalyptic game - its mechanics will reflect the gritty realism of survival. Set in the 90s, the game world incorporates challenges like gasoline degradation, which makes only diesel vehicles viable. Safehouses act as lifelines for trade, crafting, and protection. The map is richly detailed, featuring diverse locations like city centres, villages, and forests, each with strategic challenges for players to overcome.

Safehouses: Hubs of Strategy and Economy

Safehouses are pivotal in MLM. With an original count of 676, many safehouses have since been converted into vehicles, pets, or bonus upgrade points. These structures serve as respawn points, trading hubs, and shelters, creating a player-driven economic system. Owners will be able to charge reincarnation fees, adding strategic layers to asset management. Safehouses range from simple public restrooms to high-tier subway platforms and floating aerostats, giving players a chance to stake their claim in the evolving game world.

Psychological Gameplay: Mares and Dementals

Survival in MLM will include psychological challenges through mares and dementals. Mares will haunt the darkness, causing players to lose sanity when nearby. This will force reliance on light, but light sources will also attract dementals—humans driven insane by fear and the influence of mares. Dementals will retain rudimentary intelligence, making them dangerous but also valuable as sources of loot. Navigating the balance between light, darkness, and mental stability will become essential for survival.

Key Highlights

  • In-game transactions: All transactions, from purchases to rewards, are made using QUBIC coins.

  • Asset ownership: Players truly own their assets, which can be traded, transferred, or sold with validation on-chain.

  • Multiplayer interactions: From competitive matches to collaborative quests, MLM creates endless possibilities for player interaction.

Crafting and Economy

MLM will boast a player-driven crafting system with community-contributed recipes. From survival tools to portable shelters, crafting will be essential for progress. The in-game economy will use QUBIC as currency, enabling seamless integration with the broader blockchain ecosystem.

Progress So Far

1. Pre-Beta Phase

Right now, the game is still in pre-beta, which means the team is tackling a few key tasks:

  • Bug Fixes: No surprise here. Bugs always pop up at this stage, and the team is working hard to squash them.

  • Map Updates: They’re tweaking the game world, making sure things like safehouse placement feel right.

  • System Testing: The big question is whether everything holds up under pressure when thousands of players are online.

2. Beta Launch Timeline

Beta is coming but there is no fixed timeline as of yet - it depends on how things go during testing. What’s clear is that the team wants to make sure everything’s solid before opening it up.

What’s Coming in Beta

  • PVP and PVE Combat: Players will face both player-versus-environment challenges, including the dangerous dementals, and player-versus-player interactions, adding another layer of competition and strategy.

  • Loot That Lasts: Anything you collect during beta will carry over to the full game. That’s huge for anyone who wants a head start.

  • Testers Needed: More players are needed to help refine things. You can take part in shaping the game itself.

Trading Already Happening

Even before beta, trading is picking up.  Items like safehouses and vehicles are already being traded on the Qubic Discord, with notable transactions like a church selling for 7.5 billion QUBIC and the mayor’s car fetching 6.1 billion QUBIC. It’s interesting to see how the economy is starting to take form, and it’ll be fun to watch this grow over time.

Developer Engagement

Come-from-Beyond (CFB), the project lead, is highly engaged with the community. Beyond answering questions in the Qubic Discord, CfB often holds one-on-one discussions with players via direct messages to explore new ideas, discuss upgrades, and determine what’s feasible. Many player suggestions have already been integrated into the game, demonstrating a development process rooted in collaboration.
