Qatum Protocol: A Stratum-Like Mining Protocol for Qubic

Introduction

Mining in Qubic is different. There’s no traditional proof-of-work system. Instead, Qubic miners perform computations and submit results to the Quorum. But for this to work smoothly, there needs to be clear, efficient communication between miners and the network.

That’s where Qatum Protocol comes in.

This project has now launched and provides a stratum-like mining protocol for Qubic, making it easier for miners to connect, communicate, and submit results efficiently.

What Does Qatum Protocol Do?

Mining in Qubic involves constant data exchange - submitting nonces, changing mining seeds, and staying in sync with pools. Qatum Protocol standardizes and improves this communication process.

Here’s what it does:

  • Defines how miners send data → Ensures that submitted computations are received correctly.

  • Optimises network efficiency → Reduces unnecessary data traffic for faster, smoother mining.

  • Standardises mining communication → Establishes a clear set of rules for how miners interact with the network.

This means less lag, better efficiency, and a stronger mining network.

Who Built Qatum Protocol?

Qatum Protocol was created by Feiyu.IV, a full-stack developer and pool operator.

Why did he build it?
"I saw Qubic as a really cool project and wanted to open a mining pool for it. But there was no protocol to follow, and no public miners were available. That’s why I created Qatum Protocol."

With Qatum, miners now have a structured way to connect, communicate, and operate within the Qubic network.

As Qatum grows, ongoing improvements will strengthen Qubic’s mining network, making it more stable, efficient, and accessible.

Qatum is Now Live

Qatum is officially live at Qatum.org. Miners can now connect using the protocol and experience a more structured and efficient mining process.

For those who want more control, Qatum also allows users to host their own mining pool. A guide on setting up a private Qatum server is available:

There’s also a detailed guide on interacting with Qatum, covering subscription, mining ID changes, seed updates, and nonce submissions:
How to Interact with Qatum Protocol

Why It Matters

Right now, miners interact with the network without a structured communication system. That leads to delays, inefficiencies, and missed opportunities.

Qatum Protocol fixes that.

  • Miners get a clear system to follow. No second-guessing how data should be sent.

  • Less wasted bandwidth. More efficient communication means better network performance.

  • A stronger mining process. The better miners can communicate, the more reliable the entire system becomes.

What’s Next?

The developer is currently working on Milestone 3. This next stage will focus on expanding Qatum’s functionality and refining the protocol to ensure the best experience for miners.

How It Helps Qubic

  • Improves mining communication. Miners get a more structured, efficient way to send and receive data.

  • Reduces network inefficiencies. Less congestion means a smoother experience for everyone.

  • Strengthens Qubic’s mining framework. A clear protocol makes mining operations more reliable.

Final Thoughts

Mining is the foundation of Qubic. But it only works well if miners can communicate properly.

Qatum Protocol ensures that miners and the network stay in sync with less friction and better efficiency.

It’s another step toward making Qubic stronger, faster, and more scalable.

More Qubic Grants Projects Coming Soon

This is part of a series covering projects funded by the Qubic Grants Program.

Next up:
